Emma loves Crosby

At the end of the year, Emma's preschool's assignment was to write a "book" about themselves. Most children's titles were "Sarahs' Book", "All about Mike", etc. Emma's book? Of course, Emma Loves Crosby. I can't wait for these two to get married! <3 p="">

Field Day

Today was Acadia's first Hiawatha Field Day and BBQ - it was so much fun! They had games and activities and the BBQ was a blast! I love Hiawatha and so does Acadia :)

Emma's end of year report

Discovery Preschool end of year report June 2013

Social/Emotional and Adaptive Skills Development:

Emma can take care of all of her self help needs and generally does not need much teacher help in this area. Near the end of the winter she was beginning to grow weary of dressing in snow pants and would sometimes sit on the bench for a while until a teacher would encourage her to begin the task. Sometimes empathy with her feelings helped and at other times distraction was more effective. Emma has deep feelings. She is beginning to talk more and more about the way she feels about situations to teachers. As Emma has become more comfortable with school and our routine she has sometimes chosen not to come to group meetings or to crawl away from circle time. Emma is beginning to seek out friends - she and Dominic can enjoy getting silly - which is nice to see. I have also seen her play with Leila.

Fine/Gross Motor Development:

Emma's motor skills are well developed. It is wonderful to watch her complete tasks at the writing table as she uses our materials. I love all of her swirly, curlicues that she adds to her writing and drawings. Emma enjoys play on the playground and is able to do whatever she has in mind.

Language Development:

Emma has so much to say and will engage adults in long conversations. Sometimes we understand what she is saying and at other times we do not. How she may handle this is not always consistent. Sometimes she will give us context and at other times she may become silent.

Pre-academic Interests (Literacy, Math, Science Inquiry):

Emma has a wonderful attention span for projects and activities of her own choosing. She can sustain work on age-appropriate, interesting tasks and can ignore most distractions and interruptions. Stopping work when she is not yet finished can be difficult. She may show us how she feels by a small pout or she may quietly continue what she is doing (passive resistance - reminds me of Gandhi!). She has a determination which must be admired! I know as the year unfolds next year she will develop the ability to suspend what she is doing to attend to teacher tasks. Emma has so many great ideas - she does not need anyone to find her something to do. Emma can sort objects in two or more groups based on differences in a single characteristic, ie. color, size or shape. Emma can count to 12 (she will mix up numbers after that) and then finish strong with "100". Emma can identity numerals 1-5 and associate quantity to these.

Memorial Day Parade

This was Acadia's first time being in the Essex Junction Memorial Parade with the Hiawatha Elementary School! She has SO much fun! Miche, Jimmy, Baby Madison, Beth, Jim, Dianna and of course Matt was there to cheer Acadia on as she road her bike in the parade. It was awesome!!
