Walking!
Yup - our little girl is walking! It's about the cutest thing I've ever seen - EVER! I love it. She gets so excited and is so proud of herself. I'll post a video soon :)

First snowshoe trip
I'm back!! Yay!
So many updates, so I thought I would just start at the beginning of March :)
Recently a friend of mine mentioned that she had been a bit down lately. In this day in age, phone calls and e-mails are a great way to stay in touch. In fact, I would say that e-mails and FB are the two most used forms of communication for most busy moms I know right now. It's so hard to even talk on the phone with toddlers and babies in the back ground.
But isn't it nice to get something in the mail? A nice little surprise to know that someone is thinking of you? And doesn't everyone like Lake Champlain Chocolate? So I explained to Acadia that we were sending a card and package to a very special friend who wasn't having a great day. She was so sweet about it and wanted to know where it was going, who the chocolate was for, and asked to put stickers on the package before we mailed it. So I brought some heart stickers with us and Acadia (on her own!) gave it a kiss before we handed it over to the postal woman. So sweet :)

Brown Grandma
Today was a special day for Acadia because Brown Grandma came over! She loves, loves, loves Brown Grandma. They have such a special relationship and I love it that every visit from Grandma ends with a walk around our neighborhood. They go looking for treasures and always come back with some beautiful leaves, pine cones and accorns that we put in our nature bowl. It doesn't bother Grandma a bit to come back head to toe in pitch from carrying all of Acadia's treasures - she's such a good sport :) After saying good bye to Grandma, Acadia already started talking about her next visit!

The stomach bug hits our house
Emma woke up yesterday at 8:30 which is unusual - she normally wakes up around 6ish to nurse. After doing a party dance because I was able to sleep in, I slowly realized that every. single. time. Acadia is sick, she sleeps in late. Shit. So I went into her room to check on her and found throw up everywhere in her crib. Poor thing! Yesterday was a rough day - she was sick the entire day and when she wasn't getting sick or taking a bath, she was sleeping.

Interview with Hannah

My cousin's wife Hannah is the best! She's such a fun and creative mom. She's always doing something cool with the kids - baking, cooking, playing outdoors, painting. She is so completely in love with her husband and they are the most adorable couple. I only wish I saw them more!! They are the greatest! :)
1. How did you meet Andy? What do you love most about him?
I met Andy at Castleton State College. We were radio disc jockeys for WIUV, college radio. I had definitely noticed him around campus and thought he was adorable and interesting and when he started giving me “the eyes” I couldn’t believe that he would actually be interested. Well, the first time we even spent time together he told me he was interested in having a long term relationship with me. I fell head over heels for Andy really quickly. He has always been so sweet and committed. What do I love the most about him? I pretty much love everything about him, but I have to say that seeing him as a father has given me an even larger perspective of what a wonderful person he is.
2. Why did you decide to become a vegetarian? Why did you decide to introduce meat back into your diet?
Andy and I became vegan when I was working at Healthy Living in South Burlington. A lot of the other employees had alternative diets and I was interested in trying it out. At the time it made the most sense to us when we thought of environmental, ethical and nutritional issues. With both of my pregnancies I craved meat and dairy so intensely and decided to just go with it. We eventually realized that we love meat and that it can be done in a better way. We feel pretty good about our choice to eat meat that we raised ourselves or purchased locally from farmers who let the animals graze in the fields. Our bodies feel good and we know we are having a positive impact on the environment and local economy.
3. What is your favorite part of living where you do?
I love being in the country. I love walking out my door and going snowshoeing or exploring in the woods. We don’t have to drive to nature because it is all around us! I love that we have our own home and enough land to raise chickens and have a large garden. It is great being able to wade through the stream that runs through our land on a hot day. I love knowing that our children are growing up surrounded by nature and experiencing it so fully.
4. What do you love most about your children?
I love how they always keep things interesting for me. They are both such funny little people and they have me in stitches most of the time. It is so great to see the creative work of young minds and to be able to join them and be a part of that fun imaginative world. I enjoy them and appreciate them so much.
5. If you had 3 hours to yourself, what would you do?
My desires are pretty simple. I love lying around with a good book and a cup of tea or watching a good movie with Andy.
6. What is your perfect date night?
I would love to take a day trip with Andy and go to a nice restaurant, but I am also more than happy to stay in and relax together in our home.
7. What is the hardest part about being a mom?
It is really hard being the number one caregiver and being with the kids all the time. I get away to do Pilates or have a hair cut once in awhile but I really don’t get much time to myself. Don’t get me wrong, I would not change what I do but it can be stressful and draining.
8. Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
I see us living somewhere else in Vermont and building our ideal home. I imagine that the kids will be home schooling and that hopefully I will have figured out and achieved a career for myself at that point.
9. What is your favorite hobby?
That is something I am trying to figure out. I love to sew, but I am still not very great at it. I am learning to knit and I love music. I think at some point I will be playing and performing as regularly as I used to. It does bring me great joy. Andy and I both love to be in the kitchen cooking and concocting new food ideas. We have a food blog that we try to update often. It is http://www.vermonttable.blogspot.com/
10. If you could give one piece of advice to Harvest and Esther, what would it be?
I just want them to always do what makes them the most happy and successful and I want them to make choices that will help them to have healthy relationships.

And this is why I love my life
If you can't laugh about how hard parenting can be, then you'd just cry yourself to sleep on the bad days. And for the record - I have the best husband ever.
Matt sent me an e-mail asking how my day was while I was in the middle of my previous blog post.
Jenny:
Day is ok - I'm just really cranky. We had a busy morning and Emma woke Acadia up from her nap after only an hour because she was crying so hard. Then Acadia woke Emma up from her nap. I've had no nap, I'm tired of the house being a mess, I'm tired of not getting a break, I'm tired of not being to get anything done, I'm tired of tripping over toys, I'm tired of being interrupted, I'm tired of breaking up fights. And to make matters worse, we don't have any wine. I might as well throw in the towel.
Matti:
Sounds like you need a Mommy-Buddy… yeah, that’s right, a Mommy-Buddy!
It cooks, cleans, disciplines the children, does laundry, answers the phone, and will satisfy that pesky husband that comes home looking for some ‘extra loving’.
I’ll check to see if they have any in stock when I grab the wine on my way home.
Sorry about the long day honey… you should take a bath right when I get home…

Sometimes screaming into a pillow feels nice
Today actually started off nicely. We spent the morning getting ready to go out - we had to go to Barnes and Noble, Michael's, Ritz Camera, get Acadia's hair cut and go out to lunch. Daddy met us at the Hairy Bear to see Acadia get her second hair cut, then we went to Burger King together - a very special treat! The kids were awesome.
But when we got home, I had a list of things I wanted to get done. Laundry, empty the dishwasher, cleaning the kitchen, cleaning out the car and a few other miscellaneous things. We got home and I put Acadia down for a nap. I tried to put Emma down and she cried and cried so I got her and rocked with her. Put her down and she cried and cried. Rocked with her. Tried to get stuff done while holding her, which didn't work so well. Got frustrated. Tried to put her down again and she cried and woke Acadia up. Got more frustrated. Got Acadia a snack and went back into Emma's room to rock with her. She finally fell asleep and I put in a movie for Acadia so I could clean the kitchen and empty the dishwasher. 30 minutes later Emma woke up so I went in and nursed her and she fell back asleep until Acadia yelled for me that she needed another snack, waking Emma up. UGG. I put Emma in her crib, went into our room, closed the door and screamed into a pillow. And it felt good.
The end.

Mardi Gras
My family, friends and I love Mardi Gras! Mostly we love to drink illegally out in public, but we also love screaming for beads and going to all the bars afterwards. My mom used to have a big Mardi Gras party after the parade for everyone and it was a blast!
But we haven't been in about 4 years, because I was pregnant with Acadia then I thought she was too young to go. My mom was in the parade this year - fun! - so we decided we would take the kids to see what it was like now going as two respectable (well...sort of) parents. We stood in the section assigned to families and Acadia had SO much fun!
Acadia's Mardi Gras bag for her loot!
