Our big girl!

We had to lower the crib tonight, because this is what we walk into after every nap. Acadia and I were having a screaming match during these pictures and she won! She has quite the personality lately. She cracks herself up - she was screaming so loudly and laughing even louder!

The other thing she's been doing lately is laughing when we laugh. Oh boy. I love this kid.

Update on our weekend

A great weekend...filled with resting, organizing, rum and cokes, take-away (both Thai and Chinese), sewing and a bit more resting...

By Saturday night, we were both twitching a bit and in full on Acadia-withdrawl. At 9:30, Matti asked if we should run to Miche and Jimmy's to scoop her up and take her home. After some serious thinking on both our parts, we decided it would be silly to do because: 1) it would be unfair to wake her up and take her out into the cold at 9:30 at night and 2) hello?! Sleep!

I must say that the latter is what persuaded us to stay at home. And the full night's sleep we had was a.m.a.z.i.n.g. Truly amazing. We are both feeling better and well rested.

I'm loving my life

My dear, sweet sister offered to take Acadia for the WHOLE weekend! Matt and I have both come down with colds and not only do we not want Acadia to catch her first cold, but as you know if you're a momma, it is very hard to take care of a wee one when you're sick. This gives us a much needed opportunity to catch up on some sleep and to just start feeling better!

On a side note, I slept in this morning at 8:30 (yay!), brushed, flossed AND used mouthwash for the first time since Acadia was born. (Well...I'm sure I have done all three since she was born, just not at the same time!) And now Matt and I are sitting in our bed with our new flannel sheets having coffee and reading the paper. A great way to start the day! Hooray for Miche and Jimmy!

Changing things up a bit...

I heart the color blue.

Please don't judge me

Acadia got a shot at her Dr. appointment yesterday and has been a cranky mess ever since. She's been crying a whole lot and just very clingy. I had patience all day yesterday, but today it's starting to run thin. I have had to remind myself to breath about fifty time today and it's only 11am!

Anyway, I gave her the remote control, because she's completely obsessed with it. Normally I take the batteries out, so she can't turn the tv on, etc. but today I was just too tired to bother. She not only turned the tv on, but changed the channels a few times until she found Elmo. She's never seen this tv show, but she stopped playing with the remote and sat right in front of the tv for about 10 minutes! Just long enough for me to grab the video camera and digital camera and take some shots. On a day like today, I'll take any 10 minute break I can!

She's playing with knives and Chlorox right now, so I'd better run! Just wanted to share another "Mom of the Year Moment" with you.

Growing like a weed

Acadia had her 9 month appointment this afternoon. She is now 15 lbs 12 oz and 28 1/2 inches long. She's in the 75th percentile for height and in the 10th percentile for weight.

Dr. Brad said we can introduce any foods, with the exception of nuts, peanut butter, shellfish and eggs. He also said we should introduce a toothbrush and toothpaste, and could use a blanket now.

She didn't really know what to do with the toothbrush at first...

But she got the hang of it very quickly!

It's officially an obsession

My name is Jennifer and I'm a sew-aholic. There. I said it. Ahhh...I feel much better. I made a pillow for our guest bedroom and a four set of napkins last night while my wee one slept in her crib and my not-so-wee-one fell asleep on the couch. A great way to end a fun weekend!

You MUST click on this image so you can get the best view of this pattern. I LOVE IT. It's the same pattern my mother in law brought over for me that I made Acadia's bag out of. It's just the sweetest, most beautiful pattern ever and it just reminds me so much of springtime.

Random picture of the day

I just love this picture of Acadia with her Aunt Aly....

Fun times!

LOOK at what my mother in law brought over to me over the weekend! So many yummy different fabrics to make Acadia bibs, toys, smocks, bags, etc. I am so excited! She bought these fabrics when her daughter (who is now 36) was born and I love, love, love the vintage patterns! I wish I could show you every one of them - they are beautiful!

She also let me borrow her Singer Sewing Book, which has already been a big help in setting up a small sewing area. I can't wait to read some more of the book tonight!

When Acadia went down for her afternoon nap, I thought I would fool around with the fabrics and ended up making her a spit up cloth and a little tote. I love the pattern on the tote - so sweet! And I'm wondering if I will ever use the spit up cloth - the fabric is just too pretty! Sewing is VERY fun!

Getting serious about sewing

On Saturday, my mother and sister in law met me at Joanne Fabrics for a couple hours worth of fabric buying lessons, tools needed and just general walking around - in complete awe of everything there is out there for sewing. It got me SO excited to go home and sew! Not that I have any idea what I'm doing quite yet :-)

All the sewing goodness purchased at Joanne's...$75 later I think I officially gave my husband a heart attack!

Oh. My. Word. Acadia needed these patterns for her new art smocks! Yummy.

My dream has always been to have one of these super cute tomatoes! If you think I'm even half kidding - I took about 8 pictures of the damn thing! I heart it more than anything.

This is just a little reminder for when Acadia can read, how much love and hard work went into making her play things!

Grandpa's birthday dinner

I love the title of my posts - they are so original! lol! Soo....we had Grandpa's birthday dinner this past weekend at the Outback. Even though the kids were a bit grumpy, it was such a lovely evening. Everyone was in a great mood and there were a lot of laughs (and a few tropical drinks!) shared by all.

Go Rice!

Auntie Miche, Acadia and I went to her big cousin Sydney's game over the weekend. Syd got two points and the team played great! Acadia wore a matching jersey with "Go Rice" and Sydney's last name and number on the back :)

Introducing...

My very first sewing project!! My sister in law left me her sewing machine last week and some scrap pieces of fabric, so I was fooling around with them and decided to make Acadia's bear a little pillow and blanket!

I don't know if the pictures do it justice, but it is the ugliest piece of shi$ ever! But - it's MY piece of shi$! I didn't have any proper sewing material to stuff the pillow, so I just threw some cotton balls in there. It's lumpy and ugly and I'm SO proud of it! I have never made anything before and this was a lot of fun!

This is what happens when Mommy does the dishes

Let me preface this by saying that I just went to Costco and bought new brands of dish and dish washing detergents.

I accidentally switched the two and put the dish detergent into the dishwasher. Never do this.

Playgroup fun

Daddy,

I made this for you in playgroup today. It's a picture of you and I. I love you!

Love,
Acadia

Acadia's New Words

Acadia has been saying momma and dadda for a little while now, and so we thought we would try to teach her some more words. Throughout the day, when she plays, I normally tell her what she's playing with, the color of it, etc., but we thought we would introduce the words "more" and "milk" and really try to work on her saying them. I think the next words will be "eat" and "dog".

We have been signing "milk" for about three months, but we haven't been consistent, and I'm hoping these little signs will be a reminder to us to continue signing to her and practicing her new words. When she's a little older, they will be a reminder to her what we are signing, and we can talk about the colors of the construction paper, etc.

Sorry the pictures are so small - I think you can click on them to enlarge them.

The money shot!

I finally got a picture of her 3 teeth!

Waiting for daddy to come home....

Sewing 101

My sister in law came over last night to (try) to teach me how to sew. The next time I try to learn something new, I am going to hire a sitter to take Acadia out for a couple hours. With dinner (for us and Cadi), bath time, bottle, bed time, a fussy baby, etc. etc. it was harder to learn, listen, and I'm sure teach than I realized it would be.

But Aly left me with her sewing machine and I am determined to look over the manual, examine the sewing machine and practice on the scraps of fabric that she brought over for me. Although I don't do New Year's resolutions, the one thing I am going to do this year is to learn how to sew. Having Acadia has inspired me to want to make her little art aprons, picnic blankets, dress up clothes.

It has been a long time since I have learned something new, and have been reading blogs, magazines, books and websites about sewing and unique projects to motivate and inspire me to learn to sew. I am so excited - wish me luck!

Daddy dresses Cadi part two...

Yes, her pjs are on backwards...which is actually really hard to do, because they are footed pjs...

Acadia's first basketball game

We went to see Acadia's big cousin play basketball on Friday night and Cadi was fascinated! She stared at the court most of the time, when she wasn't cracking up in her Auntie Becky's arms! We missed her cousin score 4 points because we had to leave early, but we can't wait to see her play at her next game.

Baby jails and other life savers

There are many baby items that I used to laugh at before I had Cadi. I would wonder if people would actually buy those?? This play yard (or baby jail, as I like to call it) was one of those things. Acadia will only last a few minutes now in her exersaucer or her pack n play, before she wants to get out. A few SAHMs I know have this, so when I found it on Craig's List for $10, I just couldn't pass it up! Matti set it up tonight and Oh. My. Word. I have no idea how we ever lived without it!

We don't have an open floor plan on the first level of our house, so when I am trying to load the dishwasher, make Cadi lunch, sweep, etc., I can't just let her crawl around, because I can't see her the way our house is set up. This is the perfect solution and Cadi seems to love it!
